Same Day Emergency Care Team (SDEC)

The Same Day Emergency Care Team provides rapid assessment of medical and surgical patients by consultants. We aim to triage outpatients and to provide early diagnostics and implement treatment plans for patients referred from local GP practices, specialist nurses and the Emergency Department.

Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) is the provision of same day care for patients who would otherwise be admitted to hospital. The SDEC team provides rapid assessment of medical, surgical and urology patients. We aim to triage referrals, provide early diagnostics and implement treatment plans for patients referred from local GP practices, specialist nurses and the Emergency Department. We liaise with district nurses, social services and other support agencies where necessary.

SDEC aims to assess and treat medical conditions. These conditions include, but are not limited to :- low risk chest pain and cardiac arrhythmia, heart failure, suspected or proven Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) – (pulmonary embolism (PE) and Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), acute headaches, dermatological problems and newly diagnosed diabetes.

Please note that Trust protocol indicates that certain medical conditions should initially be assessed by the Emergency Department rather than SDEC. These include possible cardiac chest pain and stroke.

Our opening hours are 8.30am-8.00pm, Monday to Friday for both medical patients and additionally 9.00am-5.00pm Saturday.

Location

We are based on the Main Corridor of the Ground Floor, Harrogate District Hospital.
