Active Against Cancer is a unique, free health and wellbeing service for people living with cancer in the Harrogate district. We provide bespoke, individualised activity programmes, free to all patients with a confirmed cancer diagnosis, regardless of current fitness level.
The service is part of Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust and is delivered by a dedicated team of highly specialised, friendly trainers and physiotherapist who specialise in exercise and cancer care.
Exercise plays an important role in maintaining a healthy body and mind. It has been well researched that regular exercise can improve outcomes in many chronic diseases including cancer. Active Against Cancer is a NHS run service, free to anyone with a diagnosis of cancer in the Harrogate area and provides:
Bespoke programmes – we provide bespoke activity packages, tailored to the individual needs of each patient, throughout their cancer journey.
Personal consultation – patients undergo an initial one-on-one assessment with a specialised Physiotherapist, before working with our team of dedicated trainers.
Tailored exercise classes – Active Against Cancer offers a wide variety of exercise classes, activities and guidance around exercising with cancer.
Community Hub – all of our assessments and the majority of our classes take place at our base at Harrogate Sports and Fitness Centre; however we can provide at-home programs when needed.
Patients can be referred into the service through their cancer nurse specialist or can refer themselves to the service by completing the referral form on the Active Against Cancer website.
