Richard became a governor so he could give back to the Trust – an organisation that has cared for him and his family in times of need, reinforcing his belief in the principles of the NHS. Having lived in the Knaresborough and District constituency with his family for the past two decades, they make a point of contributing to the life of the town and community.
As the marketing director of a nationwide recruitment business, he regularly uses a range of skills such as strategic thinking, commercial acumen and effective planning which have transferred well to his participation in the Council of Governors. In addition, the communication and other people skills he brings makes him ideally suited to understanding the community’s needs and highlighting those appropriately to the Trust.
As a former Governor of a local primary school, he has been able to adapt his understanding of the operation of governing boards from education to the NHS.
In his spare time, Richard enjoys family activities, running, cycling, long walks with the dog and playing trombone for Harrogate Symphony Orchestra.
